Moms trespassed from Volusia County school board meeting call out district’s mask mandate

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A group of mothers who were trespassed from a Volusia County school board meeting last month are calling out the district for its mask mandate.

Last month, video surfaced of seven moms being removed from the meeting because they were not wearing masks. They returned on Tuesday afternoon to the school board meeting but stayed outside.

About a dozen parents gathered on the sidewalk before the meeting started at 3:30 p.m. Some of them told Eyewitness News that because some are trespassed, they cannot step foot in the building for a year unless their bans are lifted.

“The argument, really, is you have overstepped your bounds as an entity that’s supposed to be making educational decisions (into) making health decisions, and that’s inappropriate,” said Rebecca Sarwi, one of the mothers trespassed from last month’s meeting. “You’ve not made it an option for parents to opt out or not have any say in it.”

"There was security outside of the building ahead of the meeting explaining to the parents where they could and could not be as far as the property line goes.
