VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A multi-million-dollar tournament-level sports complex and stadium could be coming to Daytona Beach. It would be built on 600 acres of city-owned land off I-95 and International Speedway Boulevard, next to The First Step Shelter.

Next year, the city said it will begin finding investors who want to participate in the plan. One thing the city doesn’t have to worry about paying for is the “where.”
Daytona Beach already owns the hundreds of acres of vacant land behind me between 92 and I-4.

The complex and stadium would include seats for 10,000 spectators, dozens of fields and courts for various sports, a pool, an ice rink and concessions.
“Baseball, soccer, football, rugby. Then we’d have about 134,000 indoor facilities that can host 20 volleyball courts, 10 basketball courts and all the other sports that go with it, wrestling, cheerleading,” said Jeff Brown, Daytona Beach Director of Economic and Strategic Opportunities.

Brown explains that a project of that degree would bring millions of dollars to businesses and hotels. By its fifth year in operation, Brown estimates the complex will have a more than $96 million impact on the city.

“We can host tournaments during our down seasons here so that our hotels, restaurants, and those industries can have economic input during our downtimes,” said Brown.
The goal is for the complex to host more than 100 tournaments a year and on off days, the property could also be a place for concerts.
