Man stabs Daytona Beach librarian in the eye with scissors in unprovoked attack, police say

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Police said a man stabbed a librarian in the eye with scissors during an unprovoked attack at a Daytona Beach library Tuesday.

Investigators said Burnion Bedford attacked the woman around 11 a.m. inside the Daytona Beach regional library at City Island.

“He spoke to her and said hello, she responded with hello, and then he just unwarrantedly walked behind the counter and began to attack her,” said deputy chief Jakari Young with the Daytona Beach Police Department.

Bedford remained at the library after the attack, police said.

Officers said the woman will survive.

Police said the librarian recognized Bedford from his previous visits to the library.
