Man dies after being found unconscious in the water at Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Lifeguards in Daytona Beach said a man visiting from Lake Worth has died after drowning on Sunday.

Officials said the 59-year-old man was boogie boarding at around 2 p.m. near the 400 block of North The Beach.

The man was found floating unconscious in chest deep water by a family member, lifeguards said.

Officials said he was brought to shore where lifesaving efforts were performed by members of Volusia County Beach Safety and Daytona Beach Fire Rescue.

The man was taken to Halifax Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Lifeguards said they flew the red flag in Volusia County on Sunday and performed three additional water rescues.

The name of the victim has not been released.
