Tornado damages homes and downs powerlines, trees in DeLand, National Weather Service says

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — The National Weather Service will be in DeLand Wednesday to survey damage from a EF2 tornado that destroyed homes and buildings Tuesday.

Residents across DeLand reported significant storm damage after a possible tornado badly damaged homes and downed trees and power lines Tuesday afternoon.

The Red Cross said it is continuing to help residents who were displaced by the storm.

Video captured by DeLand city officials showed flooded streets and cars stuck. A flood warning remains in effect.

The city tweeted for commuters to avoid New York Avenue at Florida Avenue.

A short-lived tornado warning hit Volusia County around 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, but left significant storm damage.
