VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A large loggerhead turtle was rescued Thursday morning near Ormond Beach thanks to Volusia County lifeguards.
Volusia County Beach Safety shared photos of the turtle, which weighed around 200 to 300 pounds.

Lifeguards said the turtle was discovered in the water and appeared to be in distress.
Rescuers named the large turtle Sunrise, being that he was found around sunrise.

Sunrise was taken to the marine science center in Ponce to be checked out.
