DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Neighbors in one Daytona Beach neighborhood worry children are going to get hit by speeding cars if something is not done.
Now the city is looking to put in sidewalks at Vine and 3rd streets.

Residents said the area is dangerous to walk down, and with a nearby community center, kids are coming to play basketball and ride their bikes with little space for them to walk along the side of the road.
Residents in the area said they are concerned over how fast some cars drive by as children are heading to and from the Yvonne Scarlett Golden community center.
“They fly down the street, they’re flying down the street,” said resident Waunell Edwards. “They run that stop sign down there a half a dozen times a week.”
The city of Daytona Beach said no one has been hit by a vehicle in the area recently, but neighbors said they have seen many close calls.
“It’s dangerous for everyone,” said resident Nathaniel White.
White said someone hit his dog a month ago.

It’s why the city said it is looking to add sidewalks to improve pedestrian safety as well as to do some underground utility work.
The city said the work should all be done in about 6 months and cost around $700,000 to complete.
