The installation also happens to come after a 76-year-old woman shot and killed her terminally ill husband Saturday at AdventHealth Daytona Beach hospital.
The chief operating officer with Halifax Health said the change is part of an overall project to upgrade security.
“Part of our program was to enhance security to keep our patients, visitors and staff safe,” said Halifax Health Chief Operation Officer AIberto Tineo.
Metal detectors will also be added to the medical center in Port Orange and the Behavioral Services building.
