Man dies after fleeing traffic stop, crashing in Deltona, deputies say

DELTONA, Fla. — A driver who fled an attempted traffic stop for a seat belt violation and later crashed into a vehicle in Deltona has died, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said.

At about 11:45 a.m. Thursday, a deputy attempted to pull over a white Chevrolet Camaro in the area of Elkcam and Providence boulevards.

Deputies said the driver was spotted fleeing west on Elkcam and then to Normandy Boulevard. None of the deputies initiated a pursuit.

Around 11:50 a.m., deputies said the Camaro crashed into a black Volkswagen Beetle at the intersection of Howland Boulevard and Wolfpack Run.

The Camaro driver, 26-year-old Devonte Martin, was unresponsive at the scene of the crash, deputies said. Martin later died of his injuries, according to deputies.
