ORANGE CITY, Fla. — A Deltona man was hit and killed by a car Friday night, police say.
The accident happened on the 400 block of Courtland Boulevard around 11 p.m.

According to police, the victim, Craig Richardson, was in the northbound lane of Courtland Boulevard after a car hit his dog.
While Richardson was in the roadway checking on his dog, a car struck the victim, deputies said.

The four-door Toyota sedan was traveling northbound on Courtland Boulevard when it struck the victim.
Deltona Fire Rescue arrived on scene and performed lifesaving measures on the victim.
According to deputies, the victim and the dog died at the scene.

The driver stayed on scene and was interviewed by deputies. The initial investigation showed no signs of the driver being under the influence.
The crash is being investigated by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit.
