Student made up shooting threat that prompted lockdown at DeLand High, police say

DELAND, Fla. — A lockdown was lifted at DeLand High School after police said a student made up a threat and reported it to administrators.

Here’s what we know so far:

  • Police said a student overheard a conversation between two other students about shooting someone and reported that conversation to administration, which spurred a lockdown on campus. Police said after the lockdown was lifted, they determined that the student who reported the threat had made it up.
  • Police said they searched every classroom at the school and could not confirm the threat that was reported.
  • Officers said the lockdown was lifted after “information that was provided has not been confirmed as factual."
  • Officers said the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and that the student involved will face a charge of disrupting a school function.
