DELAND, Fla. — A lockdown was lifted at DeLand High School after police said a student made up a threat and reported it to administrators.
Here’s what we know so far:
- Police said a student overheard a conversation between two other students about shooting someone and reported that conversation to administration, which spurred a lockdown on campus. Police said after the lockdown was lifted, they determined that the student who reported the threat had made it up.
- Police said they searched every classroom at the school and could not confirm the threat that was reported.
- Officers said the lockdown was lifted after “information that was provided has not been confirmed as factual."
- Officers said the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and that the student involved will face a charge of disrupting a school function.
We have determined the student that reported the apparent shooting threat at DeLand High this afternoon made up the entire story. That student will be charged as a juvenile with disruption of a school function.
