DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — UPDATE 2/9/22: Daytona Beach police said they arrested Takendra Dawkins, 30, for the murder of Walter Lawrence, 60.

Officers said Lawrence was found shot in the head. They said they are still working to determine the motive behind the shooting.

Daytona Beach police are calling a man’s death inside a home “suspicious” and “traumatic.”

So far, police haven’t said who the man is or how he died, but neighbors said he had at least four children.

It happened around 3 a.m. Monday morning at a home rented out to several people on Washington Street near Madison Avenue. A roommate of the victim told Channel 9 he found the man shot and called 911.

No one living at the home said they heard any commotion of cries for help coming the home that several people rent out.

A neighbor said the man lived there for two years and retired from a record store.
