Daytona Beach police investigating overnight shooting at Bike Week

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Daytona Beach police are investigating a shooting that occurred on the first Sunday of Bike Week 2022.

According to police, the shooting happened just off Main Street on the 00 block of Fern Lane around 12:20 a.m. on Sunday.

Police said one person has been detained and the other man was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The initial investigation revealed that the two men got in an altercation at the Cruisin’ Café on the corner of Main Street and Atlantic Avenue just before the shooting occurred.

Police have not released a motive behind the fight.

Police said one of the men was sucker-punched by the other man during the fight.

As the man who was sucker-punched was leaving with a friend, the other man involved in the fight tried to rob them at gunpoint.

Police said that was when the friend pulled out a gun and shot the robber in the chest.

The man who was shot was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

According to police, charges are pending as detectives continue to investigate and search for witnesses.

The shooter, who has been detained, is cooperating with investigators.
