DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A man was shot and killed by a Daytona Beach police officer after investigators said he stabbed the officer in the face Thursday morning.
Police Chief Jakari Young said the shooting happened at a Sunoco gas station on International Speedway Boulevard around 9:15 a.m.

Young said the officer and a Volusia County deputy who happened to be at the gas station as a customer approached the suspect after gas station workers called police to trespass the suspect. Young said it was the second time on Thursday that officers were called to the gas station to trespass the man
Young said a struggle ensued and the suspect, who has not been identified, stabbed the officer in the face. The struggle leading up the shooting was captured on the deputy’s body camera. The officer shot the suspect, who died.

Young said the officer has been released from the hospital and is expected to recover fully.
The incident is the second deadly shooting involving a Daytona Beach police officer this year. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting, which is standard procedure.
