Officials confirmed during a city commission meeting Thursday that Amazon is behind a new, 1.4 million square foot distribution center in Deltona.
The deal on the property will close Friday evening and Amazon is expected to make an official announcement on the deal.
The commission unanimously approved the incentives package for the deal, where the city will give the company about a $2.5 million tax break.
Commissioner Robert McFall called the deal a “Christmas present for Deltona.”
The project has been referred to as “Project Normandy" and is expected to bring hundreds of jobs to the area.
Amazon has created more than 13,500 full-time jobs in Florida since first launching fulfillment operations in the state in 2013, according to a release. The distribution center will create 500 new full-time jobs paying $15 an hour or more.
Gov. DeSantis released a statement on the announcement:
“I applaud Amazon for this newest fulfillment center and their continued investment in Florida. Amazon is proving that by investing in modern supply chains, consumers are well-served, environmental impacts are minimized, and infrastructure is best utilized. I look forward to the positive impacts this center will have on Volusia County.”
