10-year-old boy killed, 5-month-old girl injured after man shoots them with AK-47, Daytona Beach police say

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A 10-year-old boy was killed and a 5-month-old girl was wounded after a man allegedly shot them with an AK-47, according to police.

Officials said the shooting happened Thursday morning in the area of Center Street and Brentwood Drive. Police said the boy was killed after being shot in the stomach with a rifle.

The suspect, Terrance H. Young, left the gun at the house and drove off to Division Street, where he hid inside a home he set on fire before he came out and surrendered. Officers said he was babbling incoherently and do not not if he had mental-health issues, or if he had been on drugs.

“We are going to do everything to prosecute him to the full extent of the law, and I hope he gets what he deserves,” Daytona Beach Police Chief Craig Capri said.

Young is not the biological father of the children. He has a flee and eluding warrant out of Volusia County, and a probation violation on aggravated stalking out of Miami-Dade County.

Police said the 5-month-old will be OK, and they were able to save her arm.

Eyewitness News talked to the children’s uncle, Antonio Harris.

“You don’t do nothing like that to kids,” he said. “I came through yesterday, and I should have stopped. Maybe I could have stopped a while ... but I just had something to do and I didn’t stop.”
