NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — Two people, including a 12-year-old, were bitten by sharks on Monday at New Smyrna Beach, the Volusia County Beach Safety reported.
A 12-year-old boy was standing in waist deep water after he jumped off his surfboard when he was bitten in the right calf, officials said.
Beach safety officials said he was taken to a local hospital as a trauma alert. His condition is not known.

A 71-year-old man was also bitten by a shark. Officials said he was standing in knee deep water with his boogie board when a shark bit him on the right foot.
The man was treated on scene and released, officials said.

Beach safety also reported a drowning on Monday. They said that a 67-year-old man was swimming with his grandson when he was pulled from the water by beachgoers.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Officials said the incident happened in an unguarded area of the beach.
