ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — A wildlife sanctuary in Volusia County has saved thousands of sick and injured animals.

Wild animals are thriving in the sanctuary, which is just off State Road 40 in Ormond Beach.
On the surface and from the sky, it looks like any other house where humans live.

However, on the ground, you get a clear picture of a place that can only be described with one word: Peaceful.
And that feeling probably has a lot to do with Dawn Barbone.

Since starting Samadhi Wildlife, she’s nursed hundreds of animals back to health and successfully released them back into their natural habitats.
Barbone serves animals large and small, from bats to bears and everything in between.

However, not all animals are able to be released back into the wild because their injuries are just too severe.
Samadhi is licensed through the state, so the organization gets calls and cases directly from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
