Volusia County Schools employee arrested, accused of shooting at police in Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, KY — A Volusia County Schools employee is in jail for allegedly firing a gun at police at a Louisville Airbnb.

Louisville Police said Tombe Juma-Kose Thomas they arrested Thomas on Dec. 28 for firing a gunshot at them from the bathroom.

Arrest records show on that date, Thomas barricaded himself inside the bathroom of an Airbnb while visiting family with his girlfriend for the holidays.

The records obtained by Channel 9 state that Thomas claimed there was an intruder in the house and accused his girlfriend of setting him up. When officers arrived in response to a call, he fired a single shot at them after they announced their presence, according to the report.

Police said no one was hurt.

Volusia County Schools on Saturday confirmed Thomas’s employment with the district. VCS said he is currently employed as an instructor for the PASS (Positive Alternative to School Suspension) program at Atlantic High School.

Before his role as an instructor, Thomas worked as an ESE instructor and football coach at Deltona High School but was placed in his current position at the beginning of the school year.

The district said while police investigated the shooting, VCS will also conduct an internal professional standards investigation on Thomas.

Thomas is facing two counts of attempted murder for shooting at the officers. He is currently in the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections with a preliminary court hearing scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m.
