VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — There are more people in need of affordable housing in Volusia County than there are available units.

The county of more than a half-million residents is estimated to have just more than 11,000 units.

The public will get its first chance to weigh in on a proposal looking to address the issue that has several different areas of need.
The draft looks at everything from waiving fees to changing zoning regulations, to creating a housing trust fund.

It’s a need people in the county almost said needs to be addressed.
