This is the second youth sports facility being discussed in Volusia County that Eyewitness News has reported on in the past two months. The other complex is in Daytona Beach.

This one would go on Veteran’s Memorial Parkway in Orange City on county owned land.

Community Services Director Brad Burbaugh believes the fields that would support a variety of sports, are just the beginning of an economic boom for the westside communities.

“The adjacency to the interstate, our ownership of it, the ability to develop some commercial development adjacent to these 100 acres has really made this a prime spot,” said Burbaugh.

So far, county council members have only voted on the operation and funding of the facility.

All but two councilors voted in favor of a public-private partnership, which means a company will help the county make the facility happen, rather than a city.

The county estimates the facility would bring $14 million in revenue a year.
