The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office launched “Connect Volusia” on Thursday, allowing people and businesses to add security cameras to a countywide database.

The goal is that detectives will use the videos to help solve crimes quicker.

The service does not provide a live video feed, but it lets detectives know where cameras are located. People who register will keep their information confidential.

Connect Volusia users can also send text messages, photos and videos to the sheriff’s office to report suspicious or criminal activity.

“Video cameras are helping solve crimes every day, from a theft at Walmart to a shooting in a residential neighborhood,” Sheriff Chitwood said. “With Connect Volusia, detectives will have one more tool to find crucial evidence and solve cases fast.”

Cameras can be registered online here.
