VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A Volusia County deputy was injured in a motorcycle crash early Wednesday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Troopers said the crash happened around 7:20 a.m. at Saxon Boulevard and Merrimac Lane.

The crash involved a sedan and a motorcycle.
According to troopers, the motorcyclist is a Volusia County deputy.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a 92-year-old driver was traveling westbound on Saxon Boulevard and the deputy was traveling eastbound on the same road.
Troopers said both vehicles had a green light at the intersection of Merrimac Lane.

The 92-year-old driver attempted to make a left turn and turned into the deputy riding the motorcycle.
The front of his vehicle struck the right side of the motorcycle.
The 92-year-old driver was ticketed for violation of right of way.
Troopers said the deputy was taken to a hospital.

Deputies said the deputy involved is conscious and talking, but has significant injuries.
“He is receiving great care on the road to recovery,” the sheriff’s office said on Twitter.
FHP is handling the crash investigation.
