Student’s license plates will act as a virtual parking permit.

The university said parking services trucks will be equipped with license plate readers that will automatically scan the license plates of vehicles parked in garages and surface lots on all campuses.

The cameras will then determine whether vehicles are registered.

All vehicles must park nose-in and plate-out so the cameras can verify that the vehicle has been registered.

“UCF’s transition to virtual permits using LPR technology will simplify the process for parking access while promoting safety, convenience, efficiencies and sustainability,” said Andy Rampersad, assistant director of UCF Parking and Transportation Services.

The virtual parking permits will go into effect on July 1.

There are several options available for parking permits: a 365-day permit, a 150-day permit or a daily permit.

All current parking decals and hangtags purchased before July 1 will expire on Aug. 31.

If you have a physical decal or hangtag that expires Aug. 31, the university said you will need to register your vehicle and purchase a virtual permit by the expiration date to avoid citations.

If you have two vehicles, you can register both. The second vehicle can be added for $15.

If your vehicle is in the shop for repairs or if you’re driving a rental vehicle, you can update the substitute vehicle’s information online up to six times with a 365-day permit and three times with a 150-day permit, UCF said.
