UCF quarterback Dillon Gabriel announces departure from Knights

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — UCF quarterback Dillon Gabriel announced via Twitter on Saturday that he is saying farewell and entering the transfer portal.

“After much prayer and reflection, I have decided my journey at UCF has come to an end. I will be entering the transfer portal to explore other opportunities,” Gabriel said.

Gabriel went on to thank the UCF coaching and support staff, as well as his teammates.

“I was honored to be your captain and will miss you,” Gabriel said. “We are brothers!”

Gabriel also gave a shout-out to fans. “To the Knight Nation, thank you for your support during my time here as a Knight. The program is strong because of you.”

The Hawaiian native concluded his message by bidding his followers a fond “Aloha.”

Gabriel joined the team during his first year at the college in 2019.

Gabriel suffered a broken collarbone during a game against the University of Louisville in September, forcing the quarterback to miss the remaining nine games in the Knights’ regular season.

The Knights will have to wait at least a week before finding out where they’ll play and who they’ll face in a bowl game.

UCF has agreed to host the Hula Bowl, one of college football’s premier all-star games, at Bounce House Stadium in 2022.
