According to police, a woman was using the restroom on the first floor of the UCF engineering center around 6 p.m. on November 29 when she saw someone holding a phone over the stall divider.

The victim told police she followed the suspect out of the restroom and confronted him, but he left the area before police could respond.
Investigators took a description of the suspect, which matched another man reported to have been taking pictures of women by the restroom in the UCF library earlier in the day.
UCF police reviewed surveillance video from all over campus to track the suspect’s movements and identify the vehicle he was driving.
They eventually developed 24-year-old Deontre Mason as their primary suspect.
UCF police e-mailed a description of the voyeurism incident to the Florida Campus Police Group and received replies from detectives at the University of Miami, North Florida, and the University of Florida reporting similar incidents dating back to 2020.

Just before 8 a.m. Tuesday, UCF police received a hit from their license plate reader system for the vehicle Mason was believed to be using.
Police were able to see Mason on video in the UCF library and made contact with him there.
Responding officers noted Mason appeared to have an erection when they contacted him.
After reading Mason his rights, police say he confessed fully to the voyeurism incident in the women’s restroom and offered a verbal apology to the victim.
Mason was arrested and charged with one count of video voyeurism.
