SANFORD, Fla. — Officials say four people were injured during a truck pull event at a bar in Sanford Saturday evening. .

Truck enthusiasts got more of a show than they bargained for at The Barn bar in Sanford.

Fire rescue officials say they responded to The Barn around 6:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a truck pull accident.

Witnesses at the bar on French Avenue say two trucks were pulling each other when something blew on one of the trucks.

Participants at the event told WFTV one of the trucks' transmission clutch apparently exploded.

“The fly wheel came apart and when it did it ripped through the floor and just shattered,” said Eric Thims, the owner of The Barn.

Officials say a child was one of four people who were injured during the incident. Two men suffered leg injuries after being hit by flying car parts. The driver of the truck that malfunctioned was also injured, according to fire rescue officials. All four suffered non-life threatening injuries.

“It was just like a big boom, and this guy came running backwards and he fell down,” said Bobbie Poirier, a spectator at the event.

Only a plastic fence was separating the truck pull from the spectators. Because of the incident, the bar owner said he plans to make some changes.

“I’ve done hundreds of pulls and nothing ever happens like this,” said one participant, Mike Lewandowski.

Officials say the incident remains under investigation.
