ORLANDO, Fla. — Forecasters are keeping an eye on an area of showers and thunderstorms several hundred miles east of Bermuda that could become the Atlantic’s next tropical system.
The disturbance, designated Invest 98L, has become better organized, with thunderstorms showing signs of increased organization.
The system currently has a 40% chance of developing into a tropical depression or tropical storm, according to forecasters.
While the disturbance is still well east of Bermuda, meteorologists will continue to monitor its development and track its movement over the coming days.
If it strengthens enough to become a tropical storm, the next name on the Atlantic hurricane season’s list is Fay.
