FHP investigates fatal hit-and-run crash on Colonial Drive, troopers say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run crash that left one person dead.

Troopers said a crash happened around 4:35 a.m. Monday at Colonial Drive and Commerce Boulevard.

The crash involved three vehicles.

One person died at the scene, troopers said.

According to troopers, described as a black passenger vehicle and another vehicle were traveling westbound on Colonial Drive.

Troopers said that the first vehicle hit the second, causing it to overturn.

The top of the overturned vehicle hit a pole. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

According to troopers, the black passenger vehicle fled the scene.

Following the initial crash, a secondary crash occurred after a van stopped in the center westbound lane of Colonial Drive to render aid.

An SUV, also traveling westbound, was unable to avoid the van and hit the front of the van.

The crash remains under investigation.

According to FHP, they have investigated 17 fatal hit-and-run crashes in Orange County this year.

In the same time period in 2020, FHP had only investigated 7 hit-and-run crashes in Orange County.
