How to keep your pet calm during fireworks

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Fourth of July holiday weekend is upon us and that means the streets will be filled with celebration and the skies filled with fireworks.

For dogs, cats and other pets, loud noises can be scary and cause your furry friends to bite, hide, or run away to escape the loud noises.

There are some tips you can follow to keep your pet safe during the festivities:

· Make sure your pets have I.D. tags with up-to-date information.

· Keep your pets at home and indoors in a quiet room or crate.

· Play music, turn on the TV or turn on a fan to create white noise to drown out the big booms.

· Provide pets with their favorite toys, blanket or treat to help keep them calm.

· Give your pets plenty of exercise to keep them tired and relaxed.

· You can talk to your vet veterinarian about possible medication to help ease your pet’s anxiety.

Animal shelters and wildlife rehabilitation centers are often flooded with traumatized, injured and missing animals after the holiday, according to The Humane Society of The United States.
