According to the latest data released by the state, the number of COVID-19-related deaths of residents and nonresidents now stands at 16,470.
In a statement Wednesday, Florida’s surgeon general, Dr. Scott A. Rivkees, said that the Department of Health will conduct additional reviews of all deaths reported to the state to provide more accurate data.
Rivkees said the data reported to the state “consistently presents confusion and warrants a more rigorous review.”
In Central Florida only two counties, Lake and Marion, reported coronavirus deaths.
Osceola, Seminole, Polk, Volusia, Brevard, Flagler and Sumter counties all reported no deaths.
Orange County actually subtracted one death to bring the total in that county to 532.
