Three Mount Dora streets set to become one-way starting Sept. 1

Construction will begin Sept. 1 and continue street by street throughout the month

Mount Dora considers parking fees, one-way roads to improve downtown traffic

MOUNT DORA, Fla. — Portions of three downtown Mount Dora streets will soon be converted to one-way traffic as the city works to improve parking and mobility.

Construction is scheduled to begin Sept. 1 and will generally take place Monday through Thursday. Crews will complete one street at a time, with each reopening under its new traffic pattern once work is finished.

The changes include:

  • Alexander Street: Southbound from Fifth Avenue to Fourth Avenue. Construction begins Sept. 1.
  • Baker Street: Southbound from Fifth Avenue to Third Avenue. Construction begins Sept. 7.
  • Tremain Street: Northbound from Third Avenue to Fifth Avenue. Construction begins Sept. 14.

The city initially considered adding angled parking downtown but determined the streets were not wide enough.

Officials said the one-way design will instead create additional parking spaces while improving traffic flow and emergency vehicle access.

“This project is about making the best use of the space we have while improving how efficiently residents, visitors and delivery vehicles move through the heart of our city,” Community Development Director and CRA Manager Adam Sumner said.

Drivers should follow posted detours and allow additional travel time near active construction areas.

The CRA-funded project is expected to be completed in September, though dates may change because of weather or other unforeseen conditions.
