DELAND, Fla. — A contracted trash truck driver was shot and injured after a confrontation with three individuals in DeLand on Thursday morning.
The driver was transported by helicopter to a hospital in stable condition, and police detained three suspects shortly afterward, according to the DeLand Police Department.
The shooting occurred at approximately 11:41 a.m. in the 1900 block of Greenborough Loop in the Trinity Gardens neighborhood.
According to DeLand police, the incident began as an argument between the garbage truck driver and the three individuals before becoming physical and escalating into an exchange of gunfire.
Police said the driver was struck by a bullet and was conscious when first responders arrived. He was airlifted to a hospital for treatment and was later listed in stable condition.
The three individuals involved fled the scene immediately after the shooting, according to investigators. Responding officers later located and detained all three without incident. They were transported to DeLand Police headquarters for interviews as detectives continued their investigation.
Investigators reported no evidence that anyone else was struck by gunfire and said the situation is contained, with no ongoing threat to the public.
The investigation remains active, and additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
