Thousands to step out for Susan G. Komen More Than Pink walk this weekend

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — People across Central Florida are preparing to spend the weekend walking for a good cause.

Susan G. Komen’s More Than Pink Walk will be held Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m. in Altamonte Springs.

The event is raising money and creating a support system for people battling breast cancer.

Simona Lazinsk has a big laugh, a permanent smile, she’s newly married and a businessowner.

Her life couldn’t be happier, but as they say, you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.

“I was diagnosed in March of 2019,” Lazinsk said.

Lazinsk is also a breast cancer survivor. She recalls some of the darkest chapters of her life.

“I looked at my life and said what if I don’t make it to next year? What if I don’t make it to another birthday,” said said.

There are countless stories like Lazinsk’s around Central Florida.

It’s Meredith Chambers job to bring them to life during this Saturday’s Susan G. Komen More Than Pink Walk.

“Most people unfortunately have a connection to breast cancer and we are just traying to eradicate that,” Chambers said.

The event is an opportunity to come together as a community and support those affected by the deadly disease.

In addition to the mile walk around Crane Roost Park will be entertainment, inspirational talks and more.

Thousands are expected to attend, and every dollar raised will go to breast cancer research.

According to the CDC, more than 265,000 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed every year in the US.
