Less than half of workers say they are happy with their job, and it’s the youngest workers who most feel underpaid, overworked and at risk of losing their jobs.

According to a survey of roughly 3,000 workers conducted by background and employment-check company Checkr, 44% of respondents said they were happy at work this year. That number, however, fell to 35% for Gen Z workers compared to 50% for both baby boomers and Gen X workers. Millennials were also less happy than the average, at 42%.

The biggest driver of unhappiness at work among all employees is compensation. Just 24% of Gen Z workers and 25% of millennials said they were satisfied with their pay. The satisfaction numbers rose to 47% for Gen X workers and 50% for baby boomers.
