BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A 16-year-old girl was injured Tuesday evening in a shooting near Cocoa, the Brevard County Sheriff's Office said.

The shooting was reported at a home on Grace Avenue near Clearlake Road and West King Street, Sheriff's Office spokesman Tod Goodyear said.

The victim remains hospitalized in serious condition.

A witness told Channel 9 that a fight broke out and the teenager accidentally shot herself as she waved a gun around and screamed at two young men.

The witness, who asked not to be identified, said he grandsons were being threatened by two females waving guns, when one of the guns went off. She said the teenage girl was struck in the upper body.

Deputies said at least one gun was drawn, but they have not said who pulled the trigger.

No one has been charged.

The shooting remains under investigation.
