ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Pups named Sweet Potato, Juice and Katy Perry are among the more than 100 dogs available to adopt for free from Orange County Animal Services through the end of the month.
The shelter is waiving dog adoption fees on “ready-to-go” dogs until the end of May as the shelter works to care for the more than 200 dogs in its care.
“And there are more and more coming in every day. This is heartbreaking for all of us, for our staff and for our volunteers, because we are trying everything we can every day, but sadly, it is just not enough,” shelter officials said in a Facebook post.
The shelter said adopters will still be vetted before they’re able to adopt a dog.
The shelter said the fee to adopt was previously already discounted to $25. Officials said that savings leaves an adopter with enough extra money to buy food, a toy or two.
“It will literally cost you nothing to change a life, and save one,” officials said.
