SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — A nurse from an assisted living facility in The Villages was arrested Monday after investigators said she declined to provide medical care for a dementia patient who died after a fall.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said the dementia patient became unconscious after she fell in the early evening hours of July 17 at Freedom Pointe at The Villages. Deputies said Gayle Gall, a licensed practical nurse, directed staff to place the unconscious patient in bed, with no medical care rendered after the fall.
Deputies said Gall also failed to document the incident within the facility's records.
“A physician was not notified following the patient’s fall nor was the patient’s family notified of the fall incident,” deputies wrote in a social media post.
The next morning when deputies arrived at the assisted living facility, they said the patient was dead.
Detectives said they found no previous formal complaints involving Gall in Florida in regard to her nursing license.
