MARION COUNTY, Fla. — A student died Wednesday afternoon, hours after arriving at school ill, Marion County Public Schools said Thursday.
The student, whose gender, age and identity haven't been released, was hospitalized after showing up at Horizon Academy at Marion Oaks sick, school district spokesman Kevin Christian said.
The child died at the hospital.

"Based on information we have received, we do not believe the student had a highly contagious condition," a message to parents said. "However, as a precaution, if you or your child experience a sudden fever, headache, stiff neck, nausea or confusion, we encourage you to see your family physician in a timely manner."
Officials said the school bus on which the student rode to school was removed from rotation for a thorough cleaning. They said custodians will sanitize the school as a precaution.
No other details were given.
