State Road A1A reopens following damage from Hurricane Nicole

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Sections of state Road A1A will reopen after the Florida Department of Transportation made emergency repairs, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Saturday.

Hurricane Nicole damaged the highway by eroding part of the road.

Now, motorists will be able to travel on it again in Flagler, St. John and Volusia counties.

“FDOT has completed emergency repairs on the last three storm-damaged sections of S.R. A1A and reopened the roadway after only three days of work,” DeSantis said. “FDOT crews have been working to complete repairs in a couple of days that would normally take much longer.”

Crews started repairing the roadway on Thursday by filling the road and clearing sand and debris.

Over 600 truckloads of sand were used to help repair A1A.

The sections that needed to be repaired included the following areas:

· South 28th Street to South 7th Street in Flagler Beach

· Highbridge Road in Volusia County to South Central Avenue in Flagler Beach in Flagler County

· Wisteria Drive to Sunny Beach Drive in Ormond-by-the-Sea

· Vilano Beach and Marineland
