Some Florida drivers receive new alerts to help prevent roadside crashes

ORLANDO, Fla. — Some drivers will start to receive a new alert feature on their phones thanks to AAA.

The auto club is working with Google with the hope of preventing unnecessary roadside crashes.

Drivers who use Google Maps or Waze will receive an alert if there is a broken-down vehicle ahead.

Technicians for AAA say this is needed as we get closer to the Christmas travel season.

AAA says two emergency responders are killed every month, including their technicians.

This alert feature is available to all drivers in Florida and 13 other states.
