Roger Soderstrom Jr. doesn’t mince words on the financial plight of smaller developers — proverbial “mom-and-pop” developers — in the current landscape.

“Across the board, it’s tougher for smaller developers,” said Soderstrom, a broker with Orlando-based Stirling International Real Estate who also has a growing portfolio of redevelopment projects in Sanford and Orlando.

The outlook for these types of developers and homebuilders is important, because while larger projects often add more new homes, they typically require sites further removed from employment centers and infrastructure to assemble the large pieces of land.
