‘Slap in the face’: Woman who lost son to overdose reacts to local rehab owner selling fentanyl

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A woman who lost her son to a fentanyl overdose was handing out Narcan to people around Seminole County to prevent an overdose the day after the owner of a rehab center was arrested for selling fentanyl.

Investigators said Misty Gilley was selling fentanyl out of Simply Recovery Clinic and her home on Second Street in Altamonte Springs to her own rehab clients.

Gilley, 50, left jail after she posted the nearly $50,000 bond.

People at her home did not comment.

Della Wiggins was handing out Narcan to people in Seminole County. As part of Advocates for Angels, a group for parents who lost a child to substance use disorder. She lost her son in 2018.

“I’m in total disbelief that somebody of this stature could have that kind of mentality to sell drugs to people that are coming to them for help. What was she thinking? What are they thinking?”

Wiggins, like the sheriff’s office, said she believes there are more people probably involved.

“It’s a slap in the face,” she said. “I was shocked, and I’ve had several people call me that are either parents that have lost their own children, other people that I know that have dealings with these treatment centers, and they are in shock that this happened.”
