KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Detectives in the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office are searching for a man accused of trying to abduct a girl Sunday in a Walmart parking lot.
Deputies said the incident was reported at Walmart at 904 Cypress Parkway in Poinciana.
A bald Hispanic man in his 50s or 60s approached the child in the parking lot and attempted to lure her into his car, deputies said.
The girl, whose age was not released, was not hurt, deputies said.
The man was last seen wearing blue jeans and a red shirt with a motorcycle on the front, deputies said.
He was driving a dark red Pontiac Grand Prix, possibly a 2008 model.
Deputies said they're not releasing surveillance video of the attempted abduction because it shows the child and it's not helpful in identifying the car or the man.
Area resident Selena Hilliar was shocked that something like that could happen at her neighborhood Walmart.
"It's scary," she said. "You used to be able to not have to worry about your kids as much as you do now."
Hilliar said she hopes parents will use the incident as a lesson for their children about staying safe in public places like grocery stores.
"You have to be cautious around people," she said. "You just never know. People can look so normal, and next thing you know they're taking your kid.
"I mean, it's ridiculous that people would do something like that to a kid, take them. You got to watch them every minute."
Anyone with information or anyone who recognizes the man is asked to call the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office at 407-348-2222 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-8477.
