Police: 11-year-old charged with shooting two 13-year-olds at youth football practice in Apopka

APOPKA, Fla. — Police in Apopka said an 11-year-old has been arrested and charged after two teens were shot at a youth football practice.

Apopka police said the shooting happened at a Pop Warner football practice Monday evening.

Apopka Police Chief Mike McKinley said they received the call around 8:20 p.m. for a shooting at the Field of Fame.

McKinley said three juveniles got into a fight on the football field and carried the fight into the parking lot.

The police chief said the 11-year-old grabbed a gun from his mom’s car and fired one round that hit the two teens, who are both 13 years old.

One of them was hit in the arm and the other was hit in the torso.

Both teens were taken to the hospital, and are expected to be OK.

Police said additional charges could be coming.

Apopka police are investigating a shooting at the Northwest Recreation Complex Monday evening.

A large police presence was reported at the scene near the Field of Fame on Jason Dwelley Parkway.

There will be a news conference shortly.
