VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office unveiled Wednesday its new crime center in Daytona Beach.

Phase one of the Volusia County Operations Center is up and running. The center will allow employees to monitor real time calls for service and respond more quickly to crime that is happening at the moment.

The center will soon have live video feeds from across the county that will monitor everything from schools to banks and stores, even crime in neighborhoods.

“Any camera that basically is out there that wants us to connect to we can do it,” said Volusia County Sheriff Ben Johnson.

Intelligence analysts can see where any officer is in the county at all times and dispatch them to where they are needed most.

And if a school is on lockdown due to an active shooter, authorities can easily pull up blueprints of the building and relay that information to officers approaching the scene.

"Taking all your resources and put it together so they can move more effectively, and know what each and everyone of them are doing in real time rather than phone time,” Johnson said.

Crime in Volusia County is at a 30-year low.
