PONCE INLET, Fla. — A teenager was taken to the hospital after a shark bit his foot Saturday morning, lifeguards said.
The 19-year-old was swimming in waist-deep water in Ponce Inlet north of the jetty when the shark bit him around 10 a.m., Volusia County Beach Safety said.
He was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, lifeguards said.
Lifeguards also said there are hazardous rip current conditions and have already rescued a few people from the water.
Volusia Beach Safety reminds bathers to swim in front of a lifeguard.
