VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Three patients were flown by helicopters to hospitals following a crash in Volusia County Friday afternoon, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.
The crash happened on County Road 42 near State Road 44, west of DeLand.

According to troopers, a car driven by Brian Steen, 30, of Deltona, was eastbound on C.R. 42 when Steen drove off the road at a curve.
Troopers said the front of Steen's Buick struck a tree and caught fire.
According to troopers, several people stopped and pulled Steen and his two passengers from the vehicle.
Troopers said Steen was hospitalized in serious condition, as was Vanessa Estes, 29, of Lake Helen.
A child, Remy Estes, 1, was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando with minor injuries.
Troopers said the crash remains under investigation.
Troopers said three helicopters were called in to transport the injured.
Troopers are using one lane of the road to move traffic past the scene.
