ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — A woman was shot and killed while on a work-related Zoom call after a toddler found a loaded handgun, police say.

It happened sometime Wednesday when a member of the Zoom conference call called 911 when one of the participants, later identified as 21-year-old Shamaya Lynn, appeared to be in need of help.

The caller said they were on a work-related call when they saw a toddler in the background and heard a noise just before Lynn fell backwards and never returned to the call, police said.

Officers and paramedics arrived at Spanish Trace Drive to render aid, but she was found with a gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators determined that the injury was caused by a toddler who found a loaded handgun that was left unsecured by an adult in the apartment, police said.

The investigation is ongoing. Detectives are working with the Seminole County State Attorney’s Office concerning any charges that may be appropriate for the owner of the gun.
